Mathematics - S5/S6 (Higher Still)

Mathematics Intermediate 2 | Jump to Higher | Jump to Advanced Higher

CONTENT

Intermediate 2 Mathematics is the equivalent of the Credit level Standard Grade course.

In the course, students will study topics in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

The course is divided into three units covering twelve learning outcomes; there will be an internal assessment at the end of each unit.

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

There is an external examination covering the work of all three units at the end of the course.

HOMEWORK

There is a homework assignment on each of the twelve learning outcomes. Students should expect homework after each lesson.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Standard Grade Mathematics at General level 3 or 4 for both KU and RE is required.

Mathematics Higher

CONTENT

This is a continuation of the Credit Level Standard Grade course. Students will study to a greater depth topics in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus. Topics include the Straight Line, Quadratic Theory, Recurrence Relations, The Circle, Polynomials, Vectors, The Wave Function, Differentiation, Integration and Applications.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

The course is divided into three units; there will be an internal assessment at the end of each unit.

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

There is an external examination covering the work of all three units at the end of the course.

HOMEWORK

Students should expect homework after each lesson and at the end of each learning outcome.

VALUE OF COURSE

Students who intend following science or engineering courses at college or university are strongly advised to attempt the Higher course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A Credit Grade 1 or 2 in Mathematics is required in Knowledge and Understanding as well as Reasoning and Enquiry.

Mathematics Advanced Higher

CONTENT
The course comprises three units: Mathematics 1
Mathematics 2
Mathematics 3
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

There will be an assessment at the end of each unit.

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

There will be an examination covering the work of all three units at the end of the course.

HOMEWORK

Students should expect an assignment at the end of each learning outcome and there will be a requirement to do some self-study to complete the course fully.

VALUE OF COURSE

Students who intend to study mathematics, science or engineering courses at college or university are advised to attempt the Advanced Higher Mathematics course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A pass in Higher Mathematics (at least grade C) is essential.
